| Abstract |
Codein is prepared by reacting morphine with tri methyl phenyl ammonium chloride in the presence of an alkali metal carbonate and a hydrocarbon solvent at a temperature of from 40 120 degree C. Codein is recovered from the reaction mixture. Codein is useful as an analgesic and antitussive drug. |
