An improved process for the preparation of fonnaldenyda using
improved i r o n mol ybdatc c a t a l y s t which comprises passing feed
consisting of 1 to 10 by vol. of methan01 with 5 to z X by
vol. of oxygen and balance beirq constituted by an 1 pert gas
over an improved iron molybdate c a t a l y s t at a tempraturn in
the range of 200 to 4tlOoC for 5 to 500 hrs with a voluma rate
from 3000 to 20.000 v o l e of gas per v o l . of c a t a l y s t per hour
rucovkring the formaldehyde produat by conventional absorption
