Abstract |
Reactive liquid polymers based on an unsaturated polyether ester
prepared by charging 1.50 to 2.5 moles of polypropylene glycol of molecular
weight in the range of 200 1500 0.75 to 1 moles of maleic anhydride and upto
0.003 moles of p Toluene sulphonic acid in a reaction vessel removing water
formed during the reaction by using xylene water azeotrope stirring the reaction
mixture continuously at 300 500 rpm heating from room temperature to 80 100°C
at a rate of 3 5°C min. followed by heating at a reduced rate of 1 2°C mtn. till the
reactants reach a temperature of 180°C keeping the temperature constant for a
period of 2 5 hr. increasing the temperature to 200°C at a rate of 1 2°C min.
maintaining at a constant temperature for a period of 3 6 hr.t increasing the
temperature to 220 240°C and maintaining at a constant temperature till acid value
of 3.0 mg of KOH gm of samples is reached reducing the acid value to less than
2.Q mg of KOH gm of sample by removing the water of reaction and xylene under
vacuum of the order of 10 25 mm of Hg at a temperature in the range of 180
200°C. |
